Handmade items by women entrepreneurs

What started off as a group of women making designer garments and marketing them under a common banner, has now diversified and grown into a self-help group which is into manufacturing a host of items, from foodstuffs to bedspreads.

Even Women's Endeavour (WE) - the banner under which it is known, has grown in fame in Kochi. It organised a two-day exhibition at Hotel Abad Plaza, which will conclude on Friday. The list of items that have been put up for sale in 23 stalls include cutlets, pickles, herbal shampoo, paintings, garments, soaps etc.,, all handmade by small-scale women entrepreneurs. Among the women who have showcased their exhibits is Elsy Alex, a housewife. She has come up with an array of colourful things, which include ceramic handworks on terracotta items. Copies of oil paintings have been scanned and reproduced, each costing Rs. 50. There is also a free-offer - a clock free with a bedspread.
