BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday said first-year medical students for 2005-06, whose admission had been found to violate Medical Council of India (MCI) norms, are allowed to attend classes till further orders. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi and Justice N. Kumar was hearing appeals by B.D. Dhananjaya and others against a single judge order. A single judge on August 17 upheld the MCI norms that students seeking admission to medicine should obtain 50 per cent of marks in the qualifying examination. The single judge had held as legal, constitutional and binding Regulation 5 (15) (2) of the MCI rules. By virtue of the single-judge order, 237 students stand to lose their seats. Some of them appealed against the order. When the mater came up, the Bench ordered issue of notices to MCI and other respondents and adjourned hearing to August 29.
