CHILDREN TRAVELLING by the Indian Airlines' special flight to Sharjah from Tiruchi were in for a pleasant surprise on Thursday as the national carrier had gifts in store for them. The special flight, IC 2967, was operated to clear the seasonal rush of Gulf-based non-resident Indians returning after their annual vacation. The demand for tickets to Gulf destinations was so high that almost all the regular and another special flight scheduled for September 1 being booked to full capacity lead to pleas for more special flights. For the children travelling with their parents it was time to return to school, due to reopen in the Gulf in the next few days. Over 30 passengers of Thursday's special flight were children and several more were booked to travel in flights in the coming days. Some of these kids were travelling alone after spending the vacation with near and dear ones here. Obviously, many of these kids were reluctant to get back after spending their holidays in fun and frolic. The opportunity presented an ideal occasion for the Indian Airlines to cheer up the kids with gift hampers. T.H. Radhakrishnan, IA Area Marketing Manager, pointed out that the Gulf-based Indian community was an important customer segment as they brought in a huge business each year. The children too happily accepted the gifts from S. Sreekumar, Airport Director, and M.S. Ashraf, a medical practitioner of Tiruchi, before bidding farewell.
