HYDERABAD: In yet another accident that proved the total lack of road safety for school children in the city, an eighth class student was crushed to death after his autorickshaw side-swiped a car and overturned near Basheerbagh cross roads on Thursday morning. Eight other children travelling in the auto were injured. The instantaneous death of Suchith Bhargav (13) of St. Joseph's Public School shook the officialdom so much that the School Education Minister N. Rajyalaxmi reviewed the situation and the police decided to enforce the rule that school autos shall not carry more than six children, with immediate effect. The auto carrying Suchith, his brother Puneet and seven other students was to take a right turn at the rotary in front of the Police Commissionerate, when a car overtook it and took a sudden right turn. The auto driver, Satyanarayana, slammed on the brakes and swerved to the left. In the process, the auto side-swiped the car and turned on its side. Suchith, who was sharing the seat with the auto driver on the left side fell out and was trapped underneath the vehicle. Puneet suffered a head injury. The other seven students were too shocked even to utter a word. Suchith was rushed to a nearby corporate hospital, but he had breathed his last by then.
Car number not known
In the melee that ensued, none noticed the car speeding away. So shocking was the accident for the onlookers that none could even recall the registration number of the car.
