BIDAR: The three cooperative sugar factories in the district will pay Rs. 1,100 per tonne of sugarcane supplied by farmers during the crushing season this year. This was decided at a meeting of the presidents of the factories, Forest Minister and president of the Naranja Sahakari Sakkare Karakhane Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli told presspersons on Thursday. The amount will be in addition to the cutting and transportation charges, which come to around Rs. 150 per tonne of sugarcane. Farmers will also be given a bonus of one kg of sugar for every tonne of sugarcane supplied. The Minister also appealed to farmers not to supply sugarcane to factories in other States. The factories will also promote the cultivation of high-yielding varieties of sugarcane in at least 3,000 acres in the district. Farmers will be given loans to buy seeds and fertilizers for sowing such varieties. They will be encouraged to sow sugarcane in September-October this year. The sugarcane factories will also provide consultancy and materials to farmers to tackle the Woolly Aphid pest, Mr. Nagamarapalli said. The State Government has released Rs. 46 lakhs as compensation for crop loss in the district, Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil said. Mr. Nagamarapalli said he has directed officials to distribute Rs. 20 crores to those who had lost lands during the construction of the Karanja Irrigation Project.
