NEW DELHI:
The Centre has convened a meeting here of Rural Development Secretaries of 13 States, where the progress in implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has been slow.
The August 29 meeting will emphasise the need for expediting pending projects and ascertain the reasons for the delay, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh told the Lok Sabha on Thursday. He was responding to a calling attention motion by B.C. Khanduri of the BJP.
Under the scheme, the Ministry provides full Central assistance to the States for constructing and upgrading rural roads, a State subject. "The responsibility for implementation rests with the State Governments," he said. He had already written to the Chief Ministers.
