VISAKHAPATNAM: The district police seized nearly 200 kg of gelatine sticks from a dump concealed in a roadside agriculture field early Thursday. Following a tip-off, a police party led by Kasimkota Circle Inspector Rajendra Kumar and Sub-Inspector P. Srinivasa Rao recovered 1,330 gelatine sticks, each weighing 150 gram, near Mosaiahpeta village. This was the biggest-ever haul of explosives seized here after the Government's ban on the use of gelatine sticks. "We suspect that Maoists might have concealed the sticks for a major strike. These are enough to cause heavy destruction in a big city," the Superintendent of Police V.V. Srinivasa Rao told reporters. He said that the explosives might have been dumped in the field without the knowledge of the owner of the land.
