CHENNAI: The jailed Nepalese Maoist leader, Chandra Prakash Gajurel, has been permitted by the Madras High Court to have advocate C. Vijayakumar as his counsel to conduct a case against him pending in the Alandur Judicial Magistrate Court. Justice D. Murugesan passed an order to this effect on Wednesday, after senior counsel K. Chandru submitted that an accused was entitled to have an advocate of choice. Concurring with the submission, the judge asked the Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority to engage Mr. Vijayakumar to conduct the trial in the Alandur court and give him remuneration payable to legal aid panel lawyers.
