NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday permitted the M.S. Ramaiah and six other private medical colleges in Karnataka to fill the remaining 7.5 per cent of the seats in the NRI quota for 2005-2006. By an interim order the court in July had permitted the colleges to fill 7.5 per cent of the seats under the NRI quota subject to the decision of the seven-judge Bench in the case relating to quotas and admissions. Senior counsel K.K. Venugopal on Thursday brought to the notice of a Bench comprising Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Justice C.K. Thakker that as per the recent judgment private medical colleges could fill up to 15 per cent of the seats under the NRI quota. He said the colleges had already admitted 7.5 per cent and provisional admissions had been made in respect of the remaining 7.5 per cent.
