MOSCOW: The Prime Minister of the southern Russian region of Ingushetia bordering Chechnya was injured in a bomb attack that killed his bodyguard on Thursday. A powerful bomb went off when Prime Minister Ibrahim Malsagov's car was passing by a market place in Nazran, the biggest city in Ingushetia. Mr. Malsagov suffered multiple wounds but survived, while one of his bodyguards was killed and two were wounded. Ingushetia, which was united with Chechnya until the latter proclaimed independence from Moscow 13 years ago, has been the target of armed attacks by Chechen rebels. In April 2004, Ingushetia's President Murat Zyazikov, narrowly escaped a suicide car bomb attack blamed on Chechens. Later that year, over 100 persons were killed and scores injured in a daring Chechen raid on Ingushetia.
