Prameela corners glory

New Delhi: Prameela Valli created history by setting three new records in girls' 63 kg class as India won the team title in the Asian Youth weightlifting championship that concluded in Tashkent on Thursday.

Prameela won the gold with a new Asian mark of 192kg that included efforts of 82 kg in the snatch and 110 kg in the clean and jerk on the final day of the competition, a release from the Indian Weightlifting Federation said here.

Earlier, Prameela had also won two silver and a bronze in the juniors' 63 kg event.

In the 69 kg sub-junior section, Premilla Devi won the silver by lifting 65 kg in snatch, 86 kg in clean and jerk, totalling 151 kg.

Among the boys, B. Rajkumar won the 77kg gold. He lifted 280kg for the overall gold medal. His performance in snatch (123 kg) earned him a silver while in the clean and jerk his effort of 157kg fetched him the gold. — PTI
