Aishwarya sets new meet record

BANGALORE: G.M. Aishwarya (Indo German) set a new meet record in the under-16 long jump, even as Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association's (DKAA) dominated the age group section, in the State junior athletics championship here on Thursday.

The results (winners only): Boys: Under-20: 400m: Vikas M. Puthran (DK) 48.3s. 1,500m: Srinivas K (Arjun T&F) 4:10.5s. 5,000m: Shivananda S. Mali (Bagalkot) 16:39.9s. High jump: K.S. Sanish (DKAA) 1.96m (NMR). Shot put: Santosh H.S. (Eapic) 15.79m. Under-18: 400m: Prakash (DYSS, B'lore) 51.6s. 1,500m: M. Basavaraj (Bellary) 4:16.1s. Deepu shines

Deepu struck four times as Army Service Corps B scored a 4-3 victory over Postal in the State `A' division league hockey tournament at the KSHA stadium here on Thursday. Deepu scored in the 4th, 10th, 17th and 50th minutes of the match. Postal fought hard for its three goals with Mudappa scoring a brace (25th and 58th) and Taranath slotting in his goal in the 53rd minute.

Earlier, Bharat Electronics Limited beat Bombers 4-2. Renuka Prasad (14th), Baljit Singh (57th) and Lokraj's double off penalty corners (52nd and 59th) highlighted BEL's win. Kamala Kannan (3rd) off a penalty corner Vimal Raj (15th) scored for Bombers.

Double for Guruprasad

D. Guruprasad bagged a double in the 22nd Anandashram State ranking badminton tournament that concluded at the Canara Union courts here on Tuesday evening. Guruprasad won the men's singles and doubles titles.

The results: Men: D. Guruprasad bt Mohit Kamat 15-13, 15-9. Doubles: Guruprasad and V. Manuel bt S. Krishna Kumar and B.V. Yashu Kumar 15-7, 15-12. Women: V. Ruth Misha bt Monisha Vinayak 11-8, 11-3. Veterans' men: Jayaram Pai bt Ashok Raman 15-10, 15-5. Doubles: Vinay Siddaraj and Ravikanth bt K.P. Vasanth Kumar and Ramakrishna 15-9, 15-3.

KSP rallies well

Karnataka State Police, trailing 32-34 at half-time, rallied to beat the fancied HAL Sports Club 72-65 and enter the semifinals of the Jayangar Sports Club's Strides Challenge basketball championship here on Thursday.

The results (quarterfinals): Vijaya Bank 96 (Srinivas Gowda 17, Murali Mohan 15) bt Sports Hostel 69 (Srinivas Nayak 28, Ranga Gowda 11). MEG & Centre 88 (M. Manoj 25, Tiru Joseph 16, K. BEM High School won the boys and girls' (under-17) titles in the Mangalore City zone inter-school kabaddi tournament on Thursday.

Ravi bags top honours

Ravi S. Patel won all the six apparatus events in the gymnastics events to bag the individual championship title in the Mysore University inter-collegiate gymnastics championship at Mysore on Wednesday.

The results (winner's only): Men: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Roman Rings, Vaulting Horse, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar: 1. Ravi S. Patel (JSS, Law College, Mysore). Individual championship: Ravi S. Patel - 44.5 points. Women: Floor Exercise, Balancing Beam and Vaulting Horse: 1. D.S. Rajeshwari (PG Sports Council, MG, Mysore).

Big win for

Gateway College

Centuries by Milhan (100 n.o.) and Derick (100 n.o.) and Shifan's six-wicket haul set up Gateway College's 163-run victory over Imtiaz Ahmed Cricket Academy (IACA) in a Mekal Challenge Cup tournament match here on Thursday.

The scores: Gateway College SL 285 for eight in 45 overs (Milhan 101 n.o., Derick 100 n.o., Jayesh five for 30) bt IACA 122 in 31.2 overs (Shifan six for 14).

Third win for Postal

Postal chalked up its third successive win, trouncing Dharmaraja Union 6-1 in group `A' of the Prasanna Kumar Memorial football tournament (for A division teams) here on Thursday.

Einstein struck thrice (14th, 23rd and 87th) while Xavier (32nd and 44th) and Srinivasa (82) got the other goals. Rajan Wilfred got a late consolation strike for Dharmaraja Union.

In an earlier match in the same group, BWSSB scored a 3-0 victory over promoted National FC.

Chetan sscored a brace (46th and 81st) while Somesh netted the other.

Team title for DBCC

S. Bhanumiah's College's wrestlers hogged the limelight with an excellent show and helped their college, D. Bhanumiah's College (DBCC), clinch the team championship title in the Mysore University inter-collegiate selection trials/competitions in wrestling (men) at Mysore on Monday.

The results (winners only): 50kg: 1. Amruth Kumar (GFGC, Mysore). 55kg: 1. M. Venkatesh (DBCC). 60kg: 1. Yogesh Kumar (DBCC). 66kg: 1. M. Suputhra (DBCC). 74kg: Mahadeva (DBCC). 84kg: K. Kiran scalps five

P. Kiran (five for 19) and Chetan (four for 25) struck in tandem and helped Mount Senoira School defeat Bangalore HS by 49 runs in a Parle Cup under-17 inter-school tournament here on Thursday. The scores: Mount Senoira School 116 in 31.1 overs (Mahendra 50) bt Bangalore HS 67 in 20.4 overs (R. Kiran five for 19, Chetan four for 25).

Florence PS 152 for six in 27 overs (Harshit 54 n.o.) lost to St. Anns HS 153 for four in 25.5 overs.

Mysore Zone well placed

Aditya B. Sagar (two for 19) and M.R. Darshan (two for 7) helped Mysore Zone take a firm grip against Raichur Zone on the first day of the two-day KSCA inter-zone Group B league encounter here on Thursday.

The scores: At Mysore: Raichur Zone 51 for six in 22 overs vs Mysore Zone.

At Mandya: Bangalore Zone 82 for two in 41 overs (Kunal Kapoor 38 batting) vs Dharwad Zone.

Good knock by Sunil

Sunil N. Raju's unbeaten 86 helped President's XI score 285 for six against Shimoga in a KSCA under-19 inter zonal tournament match that commenced here on Thursday.

The scores: President's XI 285 for six in 90 overs (Sunil N. Raju 86 n.o., S. Vinodh 56, F.K. Zohar 48, C.K. Akshay five for 86) vs Shimoga.

Tumkur 166 in 56.5 overs (M.G.R. Vinay 61, T.R. Harish 46) vs Mangalore Zone 66 for five in 35 overs.
