Award presented

NEW DELHI: The Director (Personnel) of the Power Grid Corporation of India, U.C. Misra, was conferred the `HR Excellence Award' by Amity Business School at a valedictory function at its Noida campus near here on Thursday.

An electrical engineer, Mr. Misra started his career with the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board in 1972. As head of personnel in Power Grid, he was able to negotiate and finalise the wage agreement with the workers' union.

The award was presented to Mr. Misra by the Dean of Conventry Business School, United Kingdom, David Gillingham.

Compensation sought

NEW DELHI: Former Deputy Mayor Ramesh Dutta on Thursday requested the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, B.L. Joshi, the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and the Municipal Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta, to grant adequate compensation to those injured in the balcony collapse at the jhuggi jhonpri quarters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's Slum Wing.

Eighty-year-old Kallu and his 21-year-old granddaughter suffered serious injuries in the collapse on Wednesday. They have been admitted to LNJP Hospital.

Mr. Dutta also demanded that the building be repaired immediately.

Enquiry ordered

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi has ordered an enquiry into the collapse of the electro static precipitator of Unit No.3 of the Indraprastha Thermal Power Station here on Wednesday.

The Delhi Chief Secretary, S. Regunathan, has been asked to immediately institute an enquiry by a technical committee and send the Action Taken Report within 10 days. It has also been suggested that a contingency plan be put into operation for early restoration of Unit No.3. He has also been asked to explore arrangements for procuring power from other States in the interim period.

Courtesy call

NEW DELHI: The designated Vice-Chairman of Delhi Development Authority, Dinesh Rai, on Thursday called on the Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, at Raj Nivas to discuss issues related to DDA.

Mr. Rai, who will succeed Madhukar Gupta as DDA Vice-Chairman, is an IAS officer belonging to the 1974 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Quiz competition

NEW DELHI: The Wilson Group of Educational Institutions is hosting the Association of Schools for ISC (ASISC) Uttar Pradesh Quiz Competition at PTC Auditorium in Moradabad this coming Saturday. Teams from Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Bijnore would be participating in the competition. Moradabad Mayor Beena Agarwal will be the chief guest.
