Trains to run via Konkan Railway

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven pairs of long distance express trains either originating or terminating from the State and Nagercoil, which were diverted owing to the flooding of tracks between Panvel and Roha, will start running through Konkan Railway from Friday and Saturday. According to Southern Railway, the 2431/2432 Thiruvananthapuram-Nizamuddin-Thirivananthapuram Rajdhani Expesseses, the 2978/2977 Jaipur-Errnakulam-Marusagar Expresses and the 2653/2654 Kochveli-Chandigarh-Kochuveli-Kerala Sampark Kranti Expresses will run via the Konkan route from both sides from August 26. The 6311/6312 Jodhpur-Thiruvananthapuram-Jodhpur Expresses, the 6335/6336 Gandhidham-Nagercoil-Gandhidham Expresses, the 6333/6334 Veravel-Thiruvananthapuram-Veravel Expresses and the 6337/6338 Okha-Ernakulam-Okha Expresses will run via the Konkan route from the both ends from August 17. The 2617/2618 Ernakulam-Nizamudin-Ernakulam Mangala Expresess has already started running through the Konkan route from Thursday, a Southern Railway release here said. - Staff Reporter

Karunakaran suggests new name for party

New Delhi: The former Chief Minister of Kerala K. Karunakaran on Thursday approached the Election Commission with a new name for his party, Indira Congress (Democratic). The Commission had refused to grant approval for National Congress (Indira) on Thursday on the grounds that the name may create confusion in the minds of the general public and the electorate with the Indian National Congress. The Congress had earlier raised objection to naming the party NC (Indira). - Special Correspondent

CRPF recruitment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will recruit 62 constables in various categories. The categories are cook, washerman, barber, water carrier and safai karmachari. Of the 62 posts, 22 are for general candidates, three for ex-servicemen, 22 for OBC, SC/ST candidates and 15 backlog vacancies of OBC. Those between the age group 18-23 and a pass in eighth standard can apply. Candidates have to appear for the selection test at their own expense at the Group Centre, CRPF, Pallippuram, Thiruvananthapuram. The dates of recruitment are September 1 for cook, September 3 for washerman, September 5 for barber, September 7 for water carrier and September 9 for safai karmachari. — Staff Reporter

Plea to rebuild bridge

MALAPPURAM: The Kerala Congress (M) Kavanoor mandalam committee has demanded that the Ayanikunnu colony bridge at Kavanoor panchayat be reconstructed immediately. In a memorandum submitted to the Minister for Revenue, committee president E.K. Shaji said that the bridge was on the verge of collapse after this year's monsoon fury. - Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: School managers under the banner of the Kerala Private (Aided) School Managers Association will stage a dharna in front of the Deputy Director of Education (DDE)'s office here on Saturday morning.
