Government not to consider interim relief; employees for reviewing decision

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government employees and pensioners will get bonus and festival allowance this year at the same rate as last year. According to announcement made on Thursday, every employee, whose gross pay was Rs.5,000 or less a month as on March 31, will be eligible for a bonus of Rs.2,500. Others will get a special festival allowance of Rs.1,000 each.

The gross pay will be calculated by adding basic pay, personal pay, special pay, special allowance, personal allowance and dearness allowance of 59 per cent. Interim relief will not be considered. The ceiling will be Rs.4,250 and dearness allowance rate 294 per cent for those who had opted to continue on pay scales before the last pay revision.

Employees should have put in a minimum continuous service of six months in 2004-05 to be eligible for bonus. Those who retired during the period will also be eligible for bonus or festival allowance.

Eligible staff will include permanent NMR workers, seasonal workers and temporary workers, part-time teachers and employees of the Education Department (on a regular scale) and Government employees on deputation to public sector undertakings, corporations and boards. Employees who were selected to Government service after October 2004 and joined service before fourth Onam will be eligible for special festival allowance.

Pensioners and family pensioners not eligible for bonus will get Rs.275 and Rs.175 respectively as special festival allowance.

The bonus and allowance will be disbursed from September 6.

Kerala Secretariat Employees Association said that the Government had cheated the employees by not increasing the bonus and festival allowance.

The Joint Council of State Service Organisations demanded that the Government review its decision.
