THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K. Muraleedharan, today made it clear that his party would not have any kind of alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League and would try for a tie-up with the Left parties to defeat the United Democratic Front and other communal parties. The party has decided to set up five-member panels to work out the parameters of local alliances, adjustments and selection of candidates for the three-tier panchayat elections. There would be a coordination committee at the State-level headed by D. Sugathan. The other members include P. Sankaran, K.P. Kunhikannan, N. Venugopal, Oommen Mathew, and Ibrahim Kallar. Addressing a press conference after the party's executive meeting here, Mr. Muraleedharan said that the party would adopt a new name which would have both Indira and Congress in it, as these two were dear to the party. (According to NCI sources, the party leaders prefer Indira Congress (Democratic) as the new name.) He said that the new name would be taken after discussions with the Election Commission authorities. Party leader T.M. Jacob was in Delhi for discussions, he said. His party would adopt an independent position in the local bodies elections. He said that the KSU(I) president, Nishad, had been removed from his post on charges of unauthorised fund collection.
