KOZHIKODE: Raziman T.V and Aswin Sasidharan of the Silver Hills HSS, Kozhikode came first in the Kozhikode edition of The Hindu-Young World Quiz 2005 held here on Thursday and made it to the all-India final to be held in Kochi. The team from Silver Hills secured 45 points. The teams from Nochad HSS, Nochad, and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kozhikode were tied at 35 points in the final round, but the tiebreak question found the former coming runners-up. Jasin Jamal M.V and Jithin G. represented Nochad HSS, while BVB was represented by Anandkrishnan P.K and Sanal Kumar P. Mohammed Ajmal C and Munavar K of Farook English Medium HSS came fourth with 25 points. Sarath S and Sabarinath U of Rani Public School, with 20 points and Badarul Muneer A and Faheem K.K of PPM HSS Kottukkara with 15 points came fifth and sixth respectively. The prize for the best team name was won by Shyam Venkitesh and Vineeth A.Kumar of the St. Patrick's HSS, Wayanad who suggested the team name, "The Nutty Professors." The second prize in this category was won by Bijo J. Francis and Sanju Narayanan of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kalpetta, who suggested the team name, `Einstein's Stupids' and the third prize won by K.P. Umesh and Bijoy V of KVRHS, Shoranur who suggested `Aryan's and Locals' as their team name. A total of 207 teams from 85 schools participated. Among them, only 22 were city schools and the rest 63 schools were outstation schools. The prize for the best outstation team was won by Sandeep Mohan and Muneer Mammikutty representing Airport Senior Secondary School at Kondotty. The second best outstation team was Sree Valluvanad Vidya Bhavan of Perinthalmanna, represented by Venkat Krishnan V.R and Aparna Raja K.V. Lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winning teams. The theme for this year's quiz is "On Everything India." The title sponsor of the event is Eveready and the associate sponsor IQ Topper. The other national sponsors are Reynolds, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathi, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Penguin. Coca-cola is the official drink. The regional sponsors are Veegaland, Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co., Craze Biscuits, Supreme Nutrifed Cakes, G-TEC Computer Education, Kozhikode, and Kannankandy Electronics, Kozhikode. The event managers are the QUIZwalahs. The quiz in Kozhikode will be followed by contests in Bangalore, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram before the grand finale in Kochi.
