CHENNAI: The Association of British Scholars (ABS), Chennai, and the British Council, Chennai, are organising annual inter-collegiate quiz on Saturday at the Bertram Hall, Loyola College, Chennai. The programme is from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The main objective in organising the quiz is to encourage students to seek knowledge beyond the classrooms through mindsport. The focus of the quiz this year will be on current awareness in the theme area of "nature, environment and conservation". Teams of undergraduate students (three in each team) from various arts, science and professional colleges in and around Chennai will participate in the programme. There will be a written preliminary knock-out round (questionnaire format) and a Chennai finals round. Apart from attractive prizes for the top three teams, there will also be special prizes for those in the audience as well.
Unique feature
The unique feature this year is the Grand Finals when the Chennai finalists will be pitted against the winners from the eight South Indian cities where the respective ABS chapters organised the preliminary rounds - Bangalore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Kochi, Mangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Visakhapatnam. The event is sponsored by M/s Cairn Energy India P Ltd, Hindustan Levers Ltd and Reliance Info Comm. Colleges interested to participate may direct their student teams to complete the registration form available from the registration desk at the venue before the event starts on Saturday along with a registration fee of Rs. 150 per team payable through cheque or demand draft favouring "ABS Chennai". Ms V G Bhooma, who has conceptualised this quiz programme, is Deputy Chief Personnel Officer, Southern Railways, Chennai. The Association of British Scholars (ABS) is a forum created and supported by the British Council and the British High Commission in India for the networking of all those who have studied or trained in the UK.
