CHENNAI: The Cyber Wing of the Central Crime Branch police arrested three employees of a computer-aided design company on Wednesday for allegedly copying a software programme, which was used for conducting classes. S. Balu, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Wing, Central Crime Branch Police, said Jayaraman, proprietor of MECHI-CI-CADD, a company involved in imparting education on design using software, lodged a complaint with R. Nataraj, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner. He alleged that three of his former employees had copied some of the software programmes from his office, which were then used for conducting classes at a different place. A special team arrested the three men. The police identified them as Arun (27), a resident of Chromepet, Imanuel (27), who stays at Anna Nagar West and Thyagu (25), a resident of Jaffarkhanpet. The arrested men used the software to conduct design classes, charging much less than what the MECHI-CI-CADD did, the police said.
Criminal charges
Cases under Section 66 (hacking) of the Information Technology Act and Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy to commit an offence), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 408(criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC were filed against the three. They were remanded to judicial custody, Mr. Balu added.
