Special Correspondent

APPROVED: Land where the multi-storyed commercial complex will be constructed.

MANGALORE: Mangalore MLA N. Yogish Bhat said in a press release issued here on Thursday that the State Cabinet has approved the construction of a multi-storey office and parking complex on the 1.6 acres of land at the Mangalore old bus stand in Hampankatta.

Mr. Yogish Bhat said he wished to thank Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh for clearing the project.

After dismantling the bus stand, the land was being used by the Mangalore City Corporation for the last ten years for parking vehicles. The upcoming project was cleared by the Mangalore City Corporation and the Mangalore Urban Development Authority six years ago. It was then estimated at Rs. 17 crores and has been waiting for Cabinet approval. The project estimate has now been put at Rs. 23.5 crores and the Mangalore City Corporation and the Mangalore Urban Development Authority in collaboration with private companies will take up the project.

The eleven-storey structure is expected to accommodate over 500 cars on a multi-deck system and will have the largest office and commercial space in the city.
