CHENNAI:
The city, reeling under a spell of hot weather, was in for a pleasant surprise on Thursday with the skies opening up. According to the Meteorological department, Nungambakkam recorded 1cm of rain between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m, while Meenambakkam received 3.4 mm of rainfall.
North Chennai experienced good showers, as also Villivakkam, Kolathur, Kilpauk, Koyambedu, K.K.Nagar and Guindy.
Many motorists were caught unawares by the late afternoon rain. Pedestrians and motorists taking shelter under the trees and bus shelters. A Met official said that the shower was due to thunderstorm activity, and a localised phenomenon. There is a possibility of a shower or thundershower in some areas of the city on Friday.
