Crores for the Capital
More than Rs. 8,000 crores is to be spent for developing/improving the infrastructure of the twin cities in the next three years.
Yes, you heard it right. All this for the development of the Capital by the Congress Government and announced by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy!
These include flyovers (Rs. 70 crores), cleaning up river Musi (Rs. 905 crores), elevated metro rail (Rs. 6,366 crores), second phase of Krishna waters project (Rs. 1,100 crores) and the likes. What makes these works interesting is that designs - some preliminary and some final- have almost been complete and what remains is grounding them after sealing up a few corners here and there.
For a party that has come to power avoiding talk on improving urban infrastructure, this is certainly a pleasant and welcome change.
While rural development has to be priority area, rapid urbanisation is too big a reality to be brushed aside.
