Police urged to focus more on members of terrorist outfits

HYDERABAD:
The efforts of the police to decentralise `Ganesh Nimajjanam' processions by diverting them to the lakes in surrounding municipalities have not found favour with utsav committees.
Echoing the sentiments of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Committee and Sri Ganesh Utsav Committee, Union Minister of State A. Narendra and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said centralised Ganesh procession has been a tradition since 25 years. "If people choose to go to other nearby lakes, one has no objection but if they are coerced by the police, it is not welcome," they said at the review meeting on Thursday. Mr. Dattatreya said that the police should focus more on movements of members from terrorist outfits to prevent any untoward incident. Mr. Narendra suggested that processions that start from Feelkhana, Begum Bazar and MJ Market could be delayed so that processions from Balapur would cross Mecca Masjid by 1 p.m. City Police Commissioner V. Dinesh Reddy said all departments were working with coordination going by the suggestions made.
