Unions call for general strike

State Government accused of toeing World Bank line

HYDERABAD: A nation wide general strike is planned by different trade unions on September 29 against the "anti-people" policies of the UPA Government at Centre and the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh.

The promises made before the election were kept aside and the same polices of the NDA Government and Telugu Desam were being followed, said CITU State secretary R. Sudha Bhaskar, and general secretary S. Veeraiah.

They told presspersons here on Thursday that the Government policies were affecting all sections of the society as it was following the World Bank orders without hesitation.

They charged the government with playing with the employees on the PRC issue and trying to dismantle the APSRTC. Even the pensioners and unorganised sector were not spared.

The general strike was intended to highlight these issues, Mr. Veeraiah said.

He said the CITU State committee had brought out a booklet penned by him to expose the anti- people policies of the government.
