Novel protest by AISF activists
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Activists of the All-India Students Federation (AISF) on Thursday staged a novel protest by presenting a memorandum to the statue of B. R. Ambedkar on Tank Bund, in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on quota in private professional colleges.
Led by AISF president L. Sravan Kumar and general secretary N. Raja Reddy the activists placed the memorandum at the statue. They lamented that the Apex court's ruling was against the spirit of social justice for the downtrodden and the poor dalits in the form of reservations, which was strongly propagated by the Father of Constitution.
They said that unaided private professional colleges and the minority educational institutions would now collect hefty fee, which the poor students cannot afford.
They reiterated their demand that the right to fix the fee in private professional institutions should be left to the Government.
The AISF leaders gave a call to the students to hold meetings on August 27 to bring pressure on the Centre to enact legislation, providing quota in the professional colleges.
