`Revoke suspension of faculty member'

KOCHI: A section of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit at Kalady laid siege to the office of the Vice- Chancellor on Thursday in protest against the suspension of a faculty member at the Thrissur regional centre of the university.

The police later removed 22 persons who participated in the protest. K.S. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor, was, however, away attending the laying of foundation stone of the Tirur regional centre.

The protest was against the suspension of services of Shaji Jacob, faculty member in the Department of Malayalam at the Thrissur centre, on charges of trying to block three Syndicate members from entering the campus on Wednesday.

The Syndicate committee had visited the campus in connection with the development projects initiated at the Thrissur regional centre.
