KOCHI: On the last day, it is said, errors are forgiven and virtues lauded. The last meeting of the present Corporation council on Thursday saw a virtual rain of compliments for the council, cutting across party lines. Thursday was also the last day for the Council to take any policy decision, as the Government is expected to notify the civic polls in the last week of August. Member after member praised the leadership of C.M. Dinesh Mani, Mayor, for successfully leading the council through the last five years and implementing several development projects. They lauded the role played by the outgoing council in attempting to address the burning issues of the city dwellers. The speakers lauded the cooperation extended by their colleagues, irrespective of political affiliations, in implementing development projects in the city. The Mayor set the tone for the discussion by praising the support and cooperation of the members of the council in implementing development activities. "We all took positions in the council and argued for the cause. Politics and difference of opinion had surfaced during some discussions. However, all the members took part in the discussions and aired their views by restraining themselves within the boundaries of democracy," said Mr. Mani. The council also attempted to give direction and perspective to the development of the city by framing a vision document and a master plan. The council also took steps to formulate the development pattern of the city with a futuristic view, he said. Highlighting the various achievements of the council, the members thanked the officials and contractors for their cooperation. The Mayor gave an opportunity to all counsellors who wished to address the council. Barring a few, most of the councillors made use of the opportunity to express their gratitude for the support and cooperation they had received during the present council. This resulted in the final council meeting extending to nearly four hours.
