HYDERABAD:
The District Collector, Arvind Kumar, has said that cases will be booked against school managements under the Public Nuisance Act if they did not provide proper transport to their students.
After the death of Rithika, an LKG student of St. Ann's High School, notices had been issued to 1,200 schools to ensure that 50 per cent of their students travelled by public transport provided by school managements by November 15 and 80 per cent of students by December end.
Action would be initiated against school managements if they failed to comply with the directive by then, he told media persons in the wake of yet another death of a school student on Thursday.
The measure is being insisted on to discourage transport of school children by auto-rickshaw.
Other safety measures include banning more than 15-year-old vehicles, proposal to introduce staggered timings for schools, five-day week with different weekly offs, decreasing the load of books students carry to school etc. The measures would be discussed in the meeting with school managements scheduled for September 7, he said.
