THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM: Yet another `police story,' on celluloid. This time a story written by a police officer.

`Out of Syllabus,' a story written by S. Sreejith, Superintendent of Police, Kottayam, is all set to hit the big screen shortly.

According to Mr. Sreejith the movie, based on the same title, is all about what a campus ought to be.

"A student should be something more than just a student. He should be a good human being. Some of the issues that rocked the campuses recently, including the death of Rejani will figure in the movie," he said. "The motivation for the film came from my friends who happened to read my story," said Mr. Sreejith.

The shooting of the film is slated to begin in October. Around 100 students selected from various campuses stretching from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod will make a presence in the movie.

The film will be released in the banner of Big Ben films international, a company based in the United Kingdom.

Noted director Lohithadas will be the creative consultant for the film.

The puja of the film, directed by debutant Viswanathan, was performed here at the university college on Thursday by Kiran Bedi, Additional Director-General of Police, New Delhi.

Ms. Bedi urged the students to shun the path of violence and channelise their energy for creative purposes.

In the tussle between students and the Government, the police should not be dragged to become a party, she said.
