SEC releases quota list of panchayats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The president's posts in 405 grama panchayat committees that would assume office after the local bodies elections in September have been reserved for various categories.

According to the list of reserved posts issued by State Election Commissioner N. Mohandas on Thursday, 296 posts have been reserved for women in general category, 33 for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and four for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Election symbol

The commission has granted coconut palm as the election symbol for Congress (S) to contest the elections.
