Man murdered; youth arrested

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A 79-year-old man Joe Johnson was stabbed to death allegedly by a youth, Wilfred (22), at the victim's daughter's house at B.V. Reddypalya in the Hennur police station limits on Thursday. Wilfred was later arrested.

The victim's body bore stab wounds on the neck and abdomen. His daughter, Sabrina, first found the body at about 1.30 p.m. She had gone out in the morning and had returned at that time. Sabrina was running a paying guest accommodation in the same area, the police said.

It is learnt that Sabrina was a divorcee and she and her father had been staying in Viveknagar before shifting to Babusapalya about six months ago. Wilfred used to visit their house frequently and was allegedly trying to befriend Sabrina, the police said.

On Thursday, the victim is said to have objected to Wilfred's visits. This triggered an angry reaction from Wilfred, who, in a fit of rage allegedly stabbed Johnson, before fleeing. He was arrested from his house, where he was hiding, the police said.

The Hennur police have registered a case of murder.

Gold chains recovered

The Basaveshwaranagar police on Tuesday arrested two youths on the charge of chain snatching and recovered from them two gold chains, together worth Rs. 50,000. The names of the arrested were given as Sendhil alias Naga (20) and Kalaivan (22), both residents of Chamundi slum in Rajajinagar.

Recovered

The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested Rajendra alias Vasu (30) of Vrushabavathinagar in Kamakshipalya and recovered from him a car that he had allegedly stolen from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh.

The Seshadripuram police on Wednesday arrested Anand of Vyalikaval and recovered from him a motorcycle that he had allegedly stolen.
