Get set for Sholay in Telugu

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: After the successful run of Hollywood movies dubbed into Telugu, it's the turn of the small screen to adopt the formula.

The 26-channel Zee Network, which recently launched Zee Telugu, has embarked on an experiment. It will air the inimitable blockbuster Hindi movie `Sholay' after dubbing it into Telugu. It will be telecast on Sunday at 3.30 p.m.

Zee Telugu's head of corporate communications B. Sastri told reporters here on Friday that the dubbing of `Sholay' was taken up as an experiment.

``Dubbing the movie is the idea of Zee South Channels business head Ajay Kumar. We got the entire sound track re-done at Chennai,'' Mr. Sastri said.

Attention had been paid to get a good lip-synch by selecting suitable voices. "For instance, Gabbar Singh speaks in Telangana accent," he said.

Prizes for audience

During the telecast, a viewers contest called `Sholay Dhamaka' will be held with prizes totalling Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The first and second prize will be Rs.1 lakh and Rs.50,000 respectively.

Zee is also organising a road show with a Gabbar look-alike riding a horse in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Hyderabad to promote the telecast.
