BANGALORE: The Government has decided to constitute a nine-member committee to study various aspects of developing a film city at the Hessaraghatta farm. The establishment of a film city was recommended by a panel headed by the veteran journalist V.N. Subba Rao in 1994.

The new committee, which will be headed by Mr. Subba Rao, who is now chairman of the State Media Academy, will go into issues such as planning, financial viability and the agencies to be involved in establishing the film city.

Information Minister B. Shivaram told presspersons here on Friday that the committee will have some members of the 1994 committee and some new members. It will submit its report within a month.

Although 300 acres have been earmarked for the film city project, the Government may have to oblige the Department of Science and Technology that has sought 100 acres for developing a science city. The committee will also look into that aspect. The Government will act on the basis of the committee's report and in consultation with all concerned, he said.

Referring to the proposed film academy, Mr. Shivaram said the Government will constitute it within a month.

When his attention was drawn to the events that forced the Government to drop the idea of a film academy because of politicking and internal squabbles within the Kannada film industry, Mr. Shivaram asserted that he would not give room for such developments to take place once again.
