BANGALORE: The Tamil Nadu Government did not offer any cooperation in securing the release of the former Minister H. Nagappa when he was being held captive by Veerappan, said Preetan Nagappa, the former Minister's son, on Friday. Dr. Preetan said this during cross-examination at the hearing of the Justice R.G. Vaidyanatha Commission of Inquiry. The commission is inquiring into the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Nagappa after his abduction. Nagappa was abducted on the night of August 25, 2002. Under cross-examination by Devaraj, advocate for the Government, Dr. Preetan said that during the abduction of the actor Rajkumar, the then Karunanidhi Government fully cooperated for securing Rajkumar's release. "But this did not happen when my father was abducted," he said. The Jayalalithaa Government, he said, refused to stop police operations against the brigand Veerappan despite "our request." Dr. Preetan said that Kalyani and Sukumaran, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, would have successfully negotiated his father's release. Both, he said, had succeeded in securing the release of Rajkumar. They would have been of help in finding the place where Veerappan was staying with his captive, he said. He said he did not make any attempt to meet Prof. Kalyani or Mr. Sukumaran as the Karnataka Government did not show any interest in sending them as emissaries. Dr. Preetan said he met A.S. Mahadevaswamy, who had met Veerappan when his father was being held captive. Mr. Mahadevaswamy revealed the location where he had met the outlay the first time and said he would meet Veerappan again three days later. "Even though I met him several times later he never spoke about Veerappan," he said.
