BELGAUM: Medical relief to flood victims now living in camps will continue for one more month to ensure safety of their health, Minister for Health and Family Welfare N. Cheluvarayaswamy has said. Talking to presspersons after visiting some camps and also villages affected by floods, here on Friday, he said the Additional Director of the Health Department, M.G. Prasad, will camp in the district to monitor medical relief as attention is seen lacking in the last few days. Interestingly, the Minister, who arrived here after about a month after the floods, expressed satisfaction over the medical relief provided by the health department officials, even as one person died of cardiac arrest in a relief camp. The service of a contract doctor was terminated. He said those concerned had been warned against showing laxity in providing timely medical care to victims. However, because of shortage of doctors in the district the services of doctors from neighbouring district had been availed of and one doctor has been appointed for every relief camp and affected village. He said the Government had provided Rs. 2 crores for medical aid to the affected people, including Rs. 20 lakhs for Belgaum district. In addition, the Red Cross Society has provided Rs. 2 lakhs and it will be requested to provide another Rs. 3 lakhs for purchase of medicines.
