Nellore: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has warned those officials who are reportedly toeing a political line in discharge of their duties. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Naidu expressed his ire against the district Collector and the Joint Collector for allegedly rebuffing TDP functionaries in connection with complaints about enrolment of `bogus' voters for the coming municipal elections by the Congress.
TDP will `watch'
In an indirect reference to the officials, Mr. Naidu said that "some officials are stooping low for the sake of authority and power." He said that his party would be watching the performance of such officials. He came down heavily on the RDO for allegedly bungling the enrolment drive. Asked about the Congress charge that the Nellore town TDP president `got' 51 votes in his house, Mr. Naidu pointed out that there is no bar on officials to seize them.
`No administration'
The former Chief Minister was critical of the Government's performance and expressed concern over the collapse of administrative systems. He alleged that most of the ruling party MLAs took liquor shops on benami and demanded a white paper on the liquor policy. Taking a dig at the irrigation projects, he remarked that the Government would take up Polavaram project even if it has no relevant approvals. Mr. Naidu rebuked the Chief Minister for copying his `Janmabhoomi' in the name of `Nagara bata' and `Palle bata.' Mr. Naidu repeated his demand for direct elections to the municipalities and opposed the Greater Hyderabad and Greater Visakhapatnam Development Authorities which, he alleged, were aimed at denying elections to 13 municipalities.
Optimistic on civic polls
On alliances for the civic polls, Mr. Naidu expressed confidence that his party would succeed even if it fights alone. On the law and order situation, he said he had firmly put down any attempts to create lawlessness in the State. Asked to comment on Moddu Seenu, main accused in the Paritala Ravindra muder case, he said: "The Chief Minister is the best person to answer the question." He later addressed a number of road shows at Kovur Centre, Regadachilaka, Musunuru, Tippa and Kavali.
