49-member team for Asian championships

NEW DELHI: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Thursday announced a 49-member team for participation in the 16th Asian athletics championships to be held in Incheon, Korea, from Sepetmber 1 to 4. The team will leave here on August 29.

The team comprising 27 men and 22 women athletes was named after assessing the performance of the athletes at the fourth National circuit meet here on Wednesday. The meet also served as the `confirmatory trials' for the probables.

The team:

Men: Anil Kumar (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Sandeep Sarkaria (4x100m relay), H. Jayachandran (4x100m relay), Vilas Nilgund (200m, 4x100m relay), Vishal Saxena (4x100m relay), B. G. Nagraj (4x100m relay), Satbir Singh (400m, 4x400m relay), Bhupinder Singh (400m, 4x400m relay), P. Shankar (400m hurdles, 4x400m relay), Aboobacker (4x400m relay), Anilkumar Rohil (4x400m relay), S. Srinivas (4x400m relay), Gahmanda Ram (800m, 1500m), P. Francis Sagayaraj (800m), Pritam Bind (1500m), Kuldeep Kumar (5000m, 10000m), Arun D' Souza (3000m steeplechase), Gajanan Upadhyay (pole vault), Maha Singh and Shamsher Singh (long jump), Jagdish Bishnoi (javelin throw), Shakti Singh and Navpreet Singh (shot put) , Vikas Gowda and Anil Kumar (discus), Kulwinder Singh and Jora Singh (decathlon.)
