Vijaya Bank enters final

BANGALORE: Vijaya Bank staved off a strong first half challenge from Karnataka State Police and won 77-59 to enter the final in the Jayanagar Sports Club Strides Challenge State-level basketball championship at the Jayangar Stadium courts here on Friday.

At half-time, Vijaya Bank led 39-37, but after the break, the two juniors, Roshan and Ronnie turned in a sparkling display for the Bankmen with their sharp shooting and guided them to comfortable win. In the final, Vijya Bank will meet MEG which snatched an exiting 74-73 win over ASC after leading 34-33 at half time.

The results (semifinals): Vijaya Bank 77 (Roshan 23, Ronnie 16) bt KSP 59 (Mahesh 12).

MEG 74 (Manoj 25, Manikantan 14, Tinu Jospeh 12) bt ASC 73 (Ranga 19, Mathew 16, Rajesh 11).

Bibin's effort in vain

Bibin Bharath's 96 went in vain as Shimoga failed to gain a first innings lead against President's XI in a KSCA inter-zonal under-19 tournament match that concluded in a draw here on Friday. Trailing President's XI's 285, Shimoga scored 215. At close, President's XI mustered 69 for four in its second innings.

The scores: President's XI 285 and 69 for four in 19 overs drew with Shimoga 215 in 84.4 overs (Bibin Bharath 96, M.K. Sagar 40, S.K. Moinuddin five for 41).

Tumkur 166 and 153 for eight in 51 overs drew with Mangalore 160 in 71 overs (Umesh Karvi 52, Eshwar Prasad five for 42).

Big win for NHS

Madhusudhan's five-wicket haul set up National High School's (NHS) six-wicket victory over Rajarajeshwari ES in a Parle Cup under-17 tournament match here on Friday.

The scores: Rajarajeshwari ES 138 in 39.1 overs (Madhusudan five for 22) lost to NHS 139 for 4 in 27overs. Adarsha Vidyalaya HS 128 in 29 overs (Urs five for 14) lost to St. Claret School 132 for 8 in 32.4 overs. Vivekananda EC 87 in 29.1 overs lost to Miranda HS 90 for 4 in 13.4 overs.
