CHENNAI: Two large wooden artefacts Lord Krishna playing the flute and Lord Ganesha, each costing Rs.55,000 and made at Puttur in Andra Pradesh invite visitors to view the exhibits at Guild of Service in Egmore. The exhibition, organised by Utkalika, Orissa State Emporium, has wide varieties of Ganesha and Krishna in different postures in wood, metal, canvas and paper, lampshades made of shell, brass `make-up kits' for women, brass mobile phone stand and silver filigree work on hairpins and ear studs. The exhibition also includes handicraft items from across the country. Bangalore-based S. Pandian decorates black-and-white photographs of gods and goddesses with silver paint, sometimes using colour to embellish the photographs. Gopal Lal of Jaipur has displayed a necklace of semiprecious stones that he designed. The piece took him one-and-a-half days to make and costs Rs.900. Suits for toddlers, shell lampshades and appliqué work summer umbrellas made at Jyotsanamayee Mishra's workshop in Puri in Orissa are interesting. The exhibition, inaugurated on Friday, is on till September 4 (10.30 a.m. - 8.30 p.m.). There is a rebate of 20 per cent on handlooms and 10 per cent on handicrafts.
