BANGALORE: It may well become Diamondgudi says the Basavanagudi Merchants Forum, organising the Basavanagudi Shopping Festival. For this still largely Kannadiga dominated locality, it may well be the first of its kind. Almost the entire area will be decorated and lit up with coloured lights from August 27 to September 18. South Bangalore will no longer be a sedate and low profile place. Major discounts, celebrity visits and entertainment and prizes such as diamonds will set the tempo for this merchandising exercise. The icing on the cake will be the diamond set offered in a prize draw.
Entertainment
Apart from this, every Saturday there will be entertainment activities in the main shopping area with performances by reputed artistes, entrance free. There will be "show your talent" shows conducted for children where they can show their skills in singing, dancing, mimicry and more. The festival buzz will literally go around Bangalore on an entertainment float that will announce the special schemes offered in Basavanagudi. The inauguration will take place with K. Chandrasekhar, area MLA, and film director and editor of Lankesh Patrike Indrajit Lankesh and presumably as many celebrities as the organisers can rope in. The forum says it will be an opportunity to draw people from other parts of the city to Basavanagudi to explore and discover an area, which has a character of its own. And of course it will provide an excellent platform for all the shopkeepers to promote their ware.
