BANGALORE: Former presidents of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat G. Venkatasubbaiah and Ham. Pa. Nagarajaiah, and other speakers on Friday hailed the contributions of T.S. Shamaraya and A.N. Upadhye to Kannada literature and said the writer were par excellence. Participating in the birth centenary celebration of the litterateurs organised by the Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Dr. Nagarajaiah, said that Upadhye and Shamaraya were good teachers, besides being scholars and educationists. Upadhye, who was born on February 6, 1905, at Sadalaga village in Belgaum district, had written extensively in Kannada, Sanskrit and Marati. He was president of Kananda Sahitya Sammelana held at Sharavanabelagola in 1967. He had written over 25 books and major works include Pravachanasara, Varanga Charite, Kuvaleyamala, and Dharmarathnakara, he said. T.S. Shamaraya was born in Talaku village of Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district on June 12, 1906. He served as a teacher in Maharani's College, Mysore, and later as head of the Prasararanga publications of the University of Mysore. He had written over 50 books in Kannada including Katha Vallari, Mahaveera, Shiva Sharana, and Mooru Thalemarina Kathe. Dr. Nagarajaiah said T.S. Shamaraya was one of the greatest teachers he has come across.
