Sri Lankan national's flat burgled

Nilofer had purchased the gold and diamond ornaments for her daughter's marriage

BANGALORE: Thieves broke into a Sri Lankan national's flat in Indiranagar police station limits in the early hours of Friday and made away with gold and diamond ornaments, together worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

The police said the incident took place at the second floor flat of Nilofer Victoria in Cosmopolitan Apartments on Water Tank Road in the posh Defence Colony. Nilofer's husband, Rex Victoria, who is based in Colombo, owns hotels in the Sri Lankan capital and on Hosur Road here, the police said.

The thieves entered the flat by removing the glass panes of a huge window that did not have grills.

While Nilofer and her daughter were asleep in a bedroom, the thieves ransacked another bedroom and took away the ornaments.

The two woke up just after the thieves escaped, the police said.

Quoting Nilofer, the police said that she had purchased the gold and diamond ornaments for her daughter's marriage scheduled to take place in September.

The Indiranagar police have registered a case.

Silver articles stolen

In another incident, thieves broke into a fertilizer trader's house in High Grounds police station limits on Thursday night and decamped with silver articles worth Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 1,000 in cash.

The burglary took place between 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. at the first floor house of Chandrashekar, a resident of Yamunabai Road in Madhavanagar, when he had been to a movie with his family. The High Grounds police have registered a case.

Thieves broke into a car showroom on St. John's Road in Bharathinagar police station limits in the early hours of Thursday and stole Rs. 2.95 lakhs in cash.

The thieves gained entry into the showroom by cutting the window grills, the police said.

On a complaint by the finance manager of the showroom A.V.C. Rao the Bharathinagar police have registered a case.

Chain snatched

Two youths riding a moped snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 from a woman in Magadi Road police station limits on Friday morning.

The police said that around 6.30 a.m. the duo snatched the chain from Vijayamba (59) when she was about to enter the compound of her house on 66th Cross, 5th Block, Rajajinagar. The Magadi Road police have registered a case.
