BANGALORE: A 16-year-old domestic help who set herself on fire a few days ago at the house of H.D. Ramesh, son of Janata Dal (S) President and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda died on Friday. The police gave her name as Pavithra, daughter of Chandramma and Shivalingaiah of Jalamangala village in Ramanagaram taluk in Bangalore Rural district. Pavithra was employed at Dr. Ramesh's house in Padmanabhanagar for the past 11 months. The police said that a few days ago when Dr. Ramesh and his wife were not in the house, Pavithra broke a bread toaster while working in the kitchen. Fearing that her employer would scold her for that she went to her room in the first floor, doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire, the police said. As Pavithra started screaming, a woman tutor who was teaching Dr. Ramesh's son at the house, rushed the girl to a nearby private hospital. Pavithra died there on Friday, the police said. After Pavithra's body was brought to the Kempe Gowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for autopsy, around 30 people gathered near the mortuary. They alleged that without informing Pavithra's parents and relatives, the police had brought her body from the private hospital to KIMS.The Banashankari police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
