Our Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI: Royal Enfield, manufacturers of bullet motorcycles and a part of the Rs. 1,500-crore Eicher group, is looking at a growth of 20 per cent this fiscal in terms of volume by selling 40,000 vehicles. It is planning a series of launches in the coming years.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, S. Vaitheeswaran, Director, Sales and Marketing, and R. L. Ravichandran, Chief Executive Officer, said the company had chalked out a roadmap for five years. It had set a sales target of 5,000 units a month in the next five years. He said the company sold 32,000 bikes last year.

Mr. Ravichandarn said "The company will roll out a brand new bike to attract young adults by the end of fiscal 2007. It is looking at a new engine platform, which is vastly different. He said the company would also come out with a new integrated 500 cc engine in the next six months.

The company, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, launched two new products — Bullet Electra 5S and Thunderbird. Bullet Electra 5S (Rs. 69,900) has a five-speed gearbox and gearshift on the left comes with dual tone colours.

Thunderbird (Rs. 74,490) is now being launched in a fully loaded version with electric start, disc brakes, gas-filled shock absorbers, and multi focal reflector lamps.
