Maoists' methods draw flak

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The gunning down of Congress MLA C. Narsi Reddy and ten others by Maoists on August 15 came in for sharp criticism by leaders of various parties at a condolence meeting here on Friday, his 76th birth anniversary.

The Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy lamented that the MLA was killed within two hours after delivering his Independence Day address at the Parade Grounds, where he renewed the Government's offer for talks with Maoists, provided they gave up arms.

In a mood of introspection, Dr. Reddy asked, "What have they achieved by killing him? What have they achieved in 35 years of running a movement?"

S. Sudhakar Reddy, CPI MP, regretted that the Maoists indulged in violence giving their movement a Marxist tag.
