THANJAVUR: Southern Railway women retained the Dharmambal Namachivayam Trophy with a convincing 64-18 win over SRM Rising Star (Chennai) in the final of the Tamil Nadu State senior basketball championship, conducted jointly by Kamala Subramaniam MHSS and Thanjavur District Basketball Association, here on Sunday. In the semifinals, Railway beat St. Joseph's BC (Chennai) 54-22 and SRM Rising Star crushed All Star BC (Chennai) 83-23 in one-sided affairs. Things were, however, different in the men's last four clashes. Defending champion Integral Coach Factory was toppled 58-54 by the youthful BSNL Telephones, which was making its maiden appearance in the championship. Indian Bank beat Indian Overseas Bank 74-63 in a thriller.
Indian Bank survives
