Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Director of the National Law School of India University A. Jayagovind has thanked Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh for issuing an order facilitating the transfer of five acres of land to the university.

Prof. Jayagovind, who read out the annual report at the 13th convocation of the university here on Sunday, said the university proposes to build a hostel for postgraduate and research students, a playground and create recreational facilities on the land.

He said that the library inaugurated by Chief Justice of India R.C. Lahoti has been named after Narayan Rao Melgiri of Gadag, who was a distinguished lawyer and grandfather of Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation.

Narayan Rao Melgiri, who practised in Gadag, was one of the idealist lawyers who treated legal profession as the quest for justice.

The library is fully computerised and equipped with wireless connectivity, the director said.

The director said that students are facing financial problems while going abroad for moot court competitions and the university could not afford to finance their trips.

The director appealed to the Union Ministries concerned to take steps to finance such trips.
