KARIMNAGAR: Communist Party of India floor leader in the Assembly, Chada Venkat Reddy has urged upon the State Government not to succumb to World Bank diktats and strive to fulfil all election promises. Participating at the power tariff agitation martyrs memorial meeting organised by the CPI district unit here on Sunday, he said the TDP government, succumbing to World Bank pressure, had introduced power reforms and burdened the common man with steep increase in the tariff. "People taught a good lesson to the TDP during the last elections," he said and pointed out that the present Congress government which had promised review of power purchase agreements with the private companies had failed to do it so far. He warned of a similar "fitting lesson" to the government if it followed in the footsteps of the TDP. He alleged that the Government had failed to implement the Indira Intinti deepam scheme to provide free single-bulb power supply to the poor families.
Supply disconnected
He charged that the Government had also disconnected power supply to Dalit colonies in the State. The CPI district secretary, Marri Venkat Swamy, the district leaders, B Ashok, K Ramgopal Reddy, M Sudarshan and others were present. The leaders paid tributes to Left parties activists who were killed in police firing in Hyderabad in 2000 while participating in the agitation against power tariff hike.
