CUTTING-EDGE TRADITION: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with senior vice-president (application development), Oracle Corporation, John Wookey at the inauguration of Oracle development center in Hyderabad on Monday. - Photo: Mohd. Yousuf
HYDERABAD: It was an unusual combination of tradition and technology at the inauguration of the Oracle Corporation's Hyderabad development centre campus. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated the centre that forms one of the focus areas of the Oracle Corp in the research and development of "cutting-edge technologies." He was ushered in with "Poornakumbham" amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by a group of pandits to the homam conducted at the venue. The traditional lighting of the lamp thereafter was followed by invocation of blessings by Hindu priests, a Muslim clergy, a Sikh and father of the church, in that order even as the devotional tunes played on traditional instruments like mridangam and nadaswaram rent the air. And, then the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration of the campus using a "remote control."
YSR `floored'
People who gathered at the venue, the heart of the IT operations in the city, were taken by surprise on seeing the meticulously planned arrangements and the organisers got praise for their efforts from none less than Dr. Reddy himself. Dr. Reddy said he was delighted to see Oracle following the Indian traditions, "more than us." Dr. Reddy assured his Government's full support and cooperation to IT entrepreneurs who wished to set up their shop here. Oracle Corp senior vice-president John Wookey expressed satisfaction over the "tremendous support" being given by the State Government.
