COIMBATORE: : The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) expects the foundation for the information technology park here to be laid by the year-end. Briefing presspersons on Monday about the new initiatives of the CII - Southern Region Council for 2005-2006, chairman ParasuRaman R said 30 acres of the Coimbatore Medical College land had been allotted to the Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT). The CII Southern Region's theme for 2005-2006 was to grow and sustain competitiveness globally. Under the small and medium enterprises cluster project, the CII would develop five clusters here. While the "Pricol Original Equipment Manufacturers Cluster" and a Geographical SME cluster" programmes were on, three more vertical clusters would be launched shortly. Three large-scale companies would be identified and the cluster taken up for their vendors. Twelve clusters were proposed in the southern region, including three in Chennai and one each in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Madurai and Hosur. Under the skill development initiative, the CII would launch a project here next month to train 500 poor youth during the next six months. They would be trained in electrical installation, plumbing and motor vehicle engineering. The CII would partner with City and Guilds, U.K, to design the curriculum and give certificates. The CII planned to train 10 lakh youth by 2010 at the national level. One of the outcomes would be creating more entrepreneurs, he said. The CII would provide vocational training to 1,000 women in the Computerised Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine here by the end of this fiscal.
